Final card a bettors' delight

EmailEDMONTON, Alberta - The Northlands Park meet wraps up Sunday with a solid betting card that emphasizes quantity over quality. There are 11 races on the slate with 92 horses entered.

The 10th race has a well-balanced field of eight $17,500 claimers going a mile. Looking in good position to score his fourth win of the meet is Jiffyjimmygee, owned by Waymor Holdings Limited. The 7-year-old has had a terrific late-summer campaign, netting 3 wins in his last 4 starts.

Jiffyjimmygee started out the season owned by Waymor and trained by Rob Chabot. But after a pair of flat efforts to start off the Stampede Park spring meet at the $22,000 claiming plateau, Chabot dropped him into a $17,500 claimer at Northlands. Jiffyjimmygee showed improvement in that race by finishing second at 9-2. He was also claimed, going to the barn of Dale Greenwood.

Greenwood, however, did not get much time to work with the horse as Chabot and Waymor claimed him right back in his very next start. Since that time, Jiffyjimmygee has been racing exceptionally well. Jiffyjimmygee captured a 1 3/8-mile marathon for $22,000 claimers on July 28 and comes into Sunday's contest off two victories in races identical to Sunday's. Jiffyjimmygee will ridden by Quincy Welch.

Going into Friday night's card here, Welch was in a nip and tuck battle with Stephan Heiler for second place in the Northlands Park jockey standings. Welch had 58 wins, to Heiler's 60. Both riders were well back of Rickey Walcott, with 85 victories.
