Filly tops three-horse entry in Speed

Email

A field of 10 older horses, including a three-horse coupled entry from trainer Savannah Rentie, will clash in the $15,000 Speed Stakes, the first stakes of the season at Lincoln Race Course.

Rentie's entry is led by the speedy filly Noble Bandit, who will likely be the favorite, along with River Romance and Sir Magic Man. Noble Bandit will be facing males for the first time in this spot but she has the speed to handle this field.

This year at Fonner Park, Noble Bandit was second in the Bold Accent and scored a 2 1/4-length victory in the Runza Stakes. Her last out came May 1 in the Al Swihart Memorial, where she finished second after being involved in a torrid early pace battle with Miss Missile.

Tip Cat was a three-time winner at Fonner this spring and most recently was fifth against optional claiming company at Prairie Meadows. Trained by Jason Wise, Tip Cat won a pair of entry level allowance races at Fonner then stepped up to capture an optional claimer before his trip to Iowa. Like Noble Bandit, he has sharp early speed.

Trainer Chuck Wiley will send out One Lucky Devil in his second start since being claimed at Fair Grounds in late March. One Lucky Devil caught a monster in his Nebraska debut, finishing second to Fonner's claimer of the year Tenth Power, who won five straight at that meet.
