PLEASANTON, Calif. - Sharoana ($5.80), already stakes-placed at Hollywood Park, completed a weekend stakes sweep for trainer Jeff Bonde, winning the $53,050 Everett Nevin Alameda County Futurity on Sunday at the Alameda County Fair. Sharoana, making the second start of her career against males, won the five-furlong Cal-bred race for 2-year-olds, defeating stakes-winning Zoning In by two lengths in 57.43 seconds. Her stablemate, Untouched Talent, won Saturday's Juan Gonzalez Memorial for 2-year-old fillies in 57.53 seconds. Sharoana broke alertly and quickly established an open lead and was never seriously challenged throughout the race even though jockey Roberto Gonzalez said she was a bit tired late and didn't change leads. Even-money favorite Zoning In could make no impact late. "Jeff told me just to get her out of there," said Gonzalez, who also rode Untouched Talent. "We opened at the 3/8ths pole, and I was able to give her an eighth of a mile breather." Sharoana, the $25,000 sales topper at last September's Northern California Sale at Pleasanton for owners Phil Lebherz and George Schmitt, earned $29,650 for her second victory in four starts and now has earned $69,470. She also finished second in the Cinderella at Hollywood Park.
