Filly favored vs. males in closing-day feature

Two-year-olds take center stage on closing day at the Lincoln State Fair in the $25,000 Capitol City Futurity. The Capitol City has attracted a nine-horse field comprising four males and five females.

Lou Lou Larue won her lone start, the State Fair Futurity on June 27, by a little more than two lengths going 4 1/2 furlongs. She will now be asked to stretch her speed to six furlongs and will likely be a solid favorite in this field of nine.

Lou Lou Larue will be coupled in the wagering with Cherishistheword, the runner-up in the State Fair Futurity. Damon Leeds will be aboard Lou Lou Larue while Luis Ranilla has the mount on Cherishistheword. Both are trained by David Anderson.

Sheer Class, trained by Kelly Clark, won the only 2-year-old maiden race to fill here this summer. A filly by Crystal Class, she showed grit in winning the four-furlong race after being headed in midstretch. Her Beyer Speed Figure of 41 is higher than Lou Lou Larue's 38.

C O Stephen, trained by James Compton, was supplemented to this race at a cost of $200. A son of Stephen Got Even, C O Stephen will be making his career debut.

Trainers Frank Davis and Kelli Martinez will also send out coupled entries. Davis has Catty Buddha, a green fifth in her debut, and first-time starter Rain Feather. Martinez sends out the first-time starters It'stimetotalk and Purgie's Unbridled.
