Filly brings record $450K

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The 2-year-old auction season continued to show unprecedented strength at Tuesday's final session of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May juvenile sale in Timonium, Md., where a sale-record price of $450,000 was reached. The previous record of $360,000 was set in 1998 and matched in 1999.

Bloodstock agent Buzz Chace, representing buyers Charles and Marianne Hesse, paid Niall Brennan, agent, the record price for a Silver Deputy filly out of Livia B. The filly's dam is a daughter of Peruvian champion La Chaposa and is thus a half-sister to Grade 1 winners Chaposa Springs and You and I.

The record-breaking filly sold for $75,000 at last year's Keeneland September yearling sale, where agent Mike Ryan bought her from Taaffe Farm, agent.

In the sale's opening session Monday, 175 lots sold for $6,543,000, up 33 percent from last year, when 160 lots sold for $4,905,200. The opening-day average was $37,389, up 22 percent from last year's $30,658. But the median dipped 5 percent to $21,000.
