Fillies by 3 to 1 in Buffalo

Email

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Last year, the filly Gold Strike was a runaway winner of the Buffalo Stakes. A filly is likely to win it again in Sunday's running of the $40,000 Buffalo here at Assiniboia Downs.

It appears that the three fillies entered in the one-mile race for 2-year-olds bred in Manitoba have a decided advantage over their lone male counterpart.

Dream Extreme, the only winner in the field, won her maiden in her fourth start in the restricted CTHS Sales Stakes in her most recent race on Sept. 5. By first-year sire Trajectory, Dream Extreme is trained by Bert Blake, who won this year's Golden Boy Stakes and Manitoba Derby with Prime Time T.V.

Blake also finished one-two in the Assiniboia Oaks with J D's Deelites and Oxford Joy.

Another filly in the Buffalo, Miss Doubletrouble, finished third, 5 1/4 lengths behind Dream Extreme in the CTHS Sales Stakes.

The filly Simply Marvis will add Lasix Sunday after finishing last of seven in the CTHS Sales.

Callie's Wisdom, the only male in the field, makes his third start after finishing a well-beaten third against maiden special weight company last time out on Sept. 2. Callie's Wisdom is the first foal out of Callie Kan, who won the 1997 Debutante Stakes here as a 2-year-old.

* Nominations closed Thursday for the Sept. 25 Breeders' Gold Cup for 3-year-olds and upward, a 1 1/8-mile race with a $40,000 guaranteed purse and $25,000 available to Breeders' Cup-eligible horses. Nominees include Deputy Country, last year's Breeders' Gold Cup winner, as well three-time stakes winners Albarino, Lord Shogun, Kat Kool, and Rindanica.
