Filimbi scores in roughly run Goldikova

ARCADIA, Calif. - Filimbi won her first graded stakes in Sunday’s $200,750 Goldikova Stakes for female turf milers at Santa Anita, a performance that could be foreshadowing of her status in the division in 2015.

Filimbi ($5.20) closed from last in a field of eight under jockey Joel Rosario to win the Grade 2 Goldikova Stakes by 1 1/4 lengths over 11-1 Emotional Kitten. Filimbi was timed in 1:34.13.

A 4-year-old, Filimbi avoided the trouble that plagued the second through fifth-place finishers and resulted in a double disqualification. After an eight-minute review, stewards Scott Chaney, Kim Sawyer, and Tom Ward disqualified Emotional Kitten from second to fourth, and disqualified I’m Already Sexy from fourth to fifth for causing interference in the final sixteenth when racing in tight quarters with rivals.

As a result, the revised order of finish for the second through fifth place finishers was Stratnhaver (promoted from third to second), Wall of Sound (promoted from fourth to third), Emotional Kitten,  and I’m Already Sexy. Rhagori finished sixth, followed by Pontchatrain and Legacy.

Filimbi is likely to stay in training, according to Teddy Grimthorpe, manager of Juddmonte Farms. He said a decision on her future will be made this winter.

“She’s shown she’s a major talent,” Grimthorpe said.

Filimbi, trained by Bill Mott, was 5 1/2 lengths behind leader Legacy after a half-mile in 46.46 seconds. She was still last with a quarter-mile remaining, but closed quickly under Rosario in the stretch to reach the front with time to spare.

Filimbi is by Mizzen Mast out of Flute, who won the Kentucky Oaks and Alabama Stakes for Juddmonte Farms and the late Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel. Filimbi has won 6 of 13 starts and earned $386,263.

Filimbi began her career in France,  where she was a minor stakes winner last November. She joined Mott’s stable over the winter and has won 3 of 6 starts this year, including the restricted De La Rose Stakes at Saratoga in August.

The winner actually caused all the interference...the jock to her inside was just anticipating her knocking into him, so he tried to move away from it before contact happened

The stewards in California are a joke, why don't they go back on TVG and HRTV and make more excuses. The CHRB deserves everything they get. What does Baffert have on these guys? First Game on Dude gets away with murdering horses and now Bayern . Cal stewards handed Baffert over $5 million with 2 egregious DQ's staying up. Sad thing is these clowns smile each day like they do nothing wrong. Bayern cause Moreno to be eased and it didn't cause a horse a placing? The freaking horse was pulled up after being destroyed at the start. Shared Belief also got crushed. But he wasn't going to be better than 4th? Really? The real reason we all know is they didn't want to put the Euro horse up. If Chrome runs 2nd I guarantee that horse comes down.

You are right if SB comes in 2nd Bayern definetely will come down but moreno got what he deserved for what he did in jockey cup.moreno wasnt going to win anyway.

Not the point. With Moreno out at start - it gives Bayern an uncontested lead for most of the race. To quote a very good rider ( Tony Black) ; " It's not how fast they're going: it's how they're going fast."

How about moreno jock claim foul on someone then maybe they have to take bayern down.

The idiot stewards at santa anita have no one but themselves to blame for all the rough riding that goes on. What the 5 horse did here was exactly the same as what BAYERN did yesterday in the b.c...exept he did it at the start of the race and not as bad...yet he stays up and this horse goes down.ridiculous..if you allow the races to become a rodeo then you should at least be consistent.
