The mutuel field, the 24th or "all others" option, continued as the slight favorite over War Pass midway through the second of four days of wagering into Pool 1 of the 2008 Kentucky Derby Future Wager. As of 4:30 p.m. on Friday, and with $47,492 bet into the win-only wager, the field was a 5-2 choice over the 23 separately listed entries. War Pass was a clear-cut second choice at 7-2, followed by Pyro (9-1), Court Vision (14-1), El Gato Malo (19-1), Monba (19-1), Crown of Thorns (21-1), and Majestic Warrior (22-1). The field has closed as the Pool 1 favorite every year since Churchill Downs first began offering parimutuel futures in 1999. Meanwhile, as of 5 p.m., the field was slightly favored at 3-1 in Pool 1 of the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager after $8,625 in wagering. Indian Blessing and Country Star were co-second choices at 7-2 among the 21 separately listed entries, followed by Pure Clan (11-1), Proud Spell (15-1), and Game Face (18-1). By the Light and Sea Chanter were early scratches. Wagering into Pool 1 for the Derby closes Sunday at 6 p.m. Eastern, with Oaks Pool 1 closing a half-hour later. Last year, Derby Pool 1 closed with $520,688 in handle, and the Oaks with $66,206. Pool 2 for both the Derby and Oaks is set for March 6-9, and Pool 3 will run April 3-6. The 134th Oaks and Derby will be run May 2 and 3, respectively.
