Few NHC qualifying chances left

Opportunities to qualify for the National Handicapping Championship are dwindling. Fortunately for players interested in playing in the January event, with its expected $2.5 million purse, there is still time.

We’re in week two of DRF Tournaments’ exclusive window to sell seats to the NHC. These contests are probable to fill so don’t delay in signing up.

On Saturday, up to three seats will be on offer. Buy-in is $400 and one winning package will be awarded for every 28 entries. Winning packages include a berth to the NHC, a four-night stay at the host hotel, Treasure Island, and $1,000 in travel.

On Sunday, the buy-in is $190 and it’s one winning package for every 60 entries. Once again, up to three seats will be awarded.

There are feeders and credit builders on DRFT from Wednesday through Sunday, allowing players to win in to the this weekend’s qualifiers, as well as future events like the $190 qualifier for the Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge, to be held on Sunday, Dec. 18.

Live contest at Los Alamitos

Players who prefer live-bankroll play and/or who are looking for on-site NHC Tour points to improve their scores should consider a visit to Los Alamitos next weekend. The Los Al contest, which has a buy-in of $400, will also offer cash prizes along with two NHC seats. Of the $400 buy-in, $100 will feed the prize pool and the remaining $300 will act as a live bankroll to be wagered on the Thoroughbred races at Los Al on Dec. 17.

Players can purchase up to two entries. Permitted wagers are Win, Place, Show and Exacta. Players interested in participating should contact contest director Orlando Gutierrez via e-mail at larace@losalamitos.com or by phone at 714‐820‐2690.

* The NTRA, which hosts the NHC, is expected to announce soon the addition of another track, Laurel, to the three-day tournament. This will mean there will be eight contest tracks in total on the menu as Laurel will join the lineup in addition to Aqueduct, Fair Grounds, Golden Gate, Gulfstream, Oaklawn Park, Tampa Bay, Santa Anita.
