Fencelineneighbor upsets Via Borghese

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Fencelineneighbor, the longest price on the board at 30-1, outlasted Fortuitious, the 5-2 favorite, to post a half length victory in Sunday's $75,000 at Gulfstream Park.

Fencelineneighbor stalked a leisurely pace, gained command at midstretch then withstood Fortuitious who was sent postward the favorite despite making her first start since Oct. 5. Fortuitious raced in the middle of the pack for six furlongs, had to await room in traffic around the turn and entering the stretch then finished well once clear to just miss.

Gal O Gal rallied belatedly to finish third, another neck behind Fortuitious. She was followed by Crimson And Roses, Dyna Flyer, Formal Miss, Sweettrickydancer, One And Twenty and Vuitton.

Fenclineneighbor ran one mile and one eighth in 1:50.24 seconds over a firm course and paid $63.60. Julio Garcia rode the winner who is owned by the Monarch Stable and trained by Larry Pilotti.

Fencelineneighbor was making her first start on grass since finishing a tiring eighth in Calder's Tropical Park Oaks on New Years Day.

"We'd been trying to get her back on the grass in a first level allowance race but couldn't get her in," said Pilotti. "When she finally did get in the race came off the turf and she rallied from far back to win over the main track. She was a little headstrong as a 2-year-old and we always thought she'd be better once she learned to settle and had something to look. Julio rode a great race. She sat back a little off a slow pace, went and ran them down and was the best today. The only thing I was surprised about was the price."
