Felicianos win with Pyrite Bonds

NORTH RANDALL, Ohio - Trainer Miguel A. Feliciano, who has seven stakes wins from 22 starts this year, and jockey Ricardo Feliciano, Miguel's nephew and leading rider in Ohio stakes races, teamed to win the $40,000 Ohio Debutante Handicap with Pyrite Bonds at Thistledown on Saturday.

A 3-year-old by Formal Dinner, Pyrite Bonds broke alertly to make the lead a few strides out of the gate, set the pace with quick fractions, and prevailed by a length over heavily favored Bold Passage. It was another 2 3/4 lengths back to Noon Win, who finished third.

Pyrite Bonds ran the six furlongs in 1:11.60 and paid $15.40.

"She seems to be a nervous horse and sometimes she breaks well and sometimes she doesn't." "Today, we got lucky," Miguel Feliciano said.

"She's been training real well prior to this race," Ricardo Feliciano said. "Last race we had a bad break, plus she got a little tired and I didn't want to knock her out.

"I knew if we had a good break, she would be tough today. She's pretty rapid and has some class to her."
