Favorites win both stakes


Favorites swept the two stakes run Friday night at Delta Downs, with Mean Butterbean proving 1 1/2 lengths best in the $40,000 Lookout, and Stormy Amber winning by 1 1/4 lengths in the $40,000 Prime Rewards.

Both races were run at one mile in the slop, and were restricted to horses who had never won a stakes.

Mean Butterbean ($2.40) stalked the pace set by Blue Sunday in the Lookout, took the lead after a half-mile in 47.52 seconds, and went on to cover the distance in 1:40.38.

Curt Bourque rode Mean Butterbean for trainer Victor Arceneaux. The horse earned $24,000 for his sixth win in 15 career starts. He races for Brittlyn Stable and has now earned $176,790.

Stormy Amber ($3.80) gave trainer Tom Amoss his fifth win in nine starts this meet at Delta when she overtook pacesetter and eventual runner-up Mystical Moonlight in the stretch in the Prime Rewards, covering the distance in 1:40.58. Tracy Hebert was aboard the winner.

Stormy Amber has now won 5 of 9 starts and $113,832 for Casa Farms I and Susan Atkins.
