Favorites rule pick sixes

Winning tickets in the pick six at both Belmont Park and Churchill Downs were sold Wednesday after carryover jackpots greeted horseplayers at both tracks.

With one notable exception at both tracks, favorites dominated the pick six. The return for $2 was $14,026 at Belmont Park, and $41,722.20 at Churchill.

At Belmont, the ninth and last race, which also was the last race of the pick six, resulted in the disqualification of Our Top Cat, a 3-1 shot, from first, giving victory to Karakorum Tornado, a 19-1 shot. Before that race, three favorites, including two odds-on choices, were victorious, with none of them returning more than $8.50 to win. The winning numbers were 7-1-8-9-6-8, and five of six paid $66.50.

The Belmont pick six carryover had been $72,599, with another $419,572 wagered Wednesday.

Three favorites also were winners in the pick six sequence at Churchill, where the carryover stood at $97,352 into the day. The lone big-priced winner was Unforgotten ($38) in the sixth race. The winning numbers were 6-3-10-6-9-9, and five of six returned $175. Handle on top of the carryover was $252,681.
