Favored Starvinsky cruises

Even-money choice Starvinsky cruised to his fourth straight victory, on Saturday at Delaware Park, streaking to the lead and staying there in the $75,000 Nick Shuk Memorial for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles on the turf.

Ridden by Jeremy Rose for trainer Bruce Jackson and owner Richard Schultz, Starvinsky cut soft fractions of 25.65 seconds for the quarter-mile, 49.58 for the half, and 1:13.25 for six furlongs. His final time was 1:42.89 and his margin of victory was 3 1/4 lengths.

Starvinsky turned back a challenge by 9-2 second-choice So Amazing just after the six-furlong marker and was not threatened the rest of the way.

Dinner in Odem, a 42-1 bomber who had finished in the money in two of his three previous starts on grass, won a three-way photo for the place, by a nose over 8-1 Discreet Charmer. La Neige, 5-1, finished another neck back in fourth.

Starvinsky paid $4.20 and topped a $84.40 exacta and $464.20 trifecta.

Starvinsky, by Stravinsky out of the Milford mare Scoiete Royale, now has 3 wins in 4 starts on turf. The loss came in his career debut at Laurel last September, when he ran fifth in a field of 14 maidens, beaten by 2 3/4 lengths.
