Faves enjoy 3-for-3 weekend


WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Favorites dominated the stakes at Assiniboia Downs last weekend, as the public's choice won all three races.

Shanghied improved his record to 2 for 2 in Friday's Golden Boy. Trained by Bert Blake and ridden by Travis Hightower, Shanghied returned $4.90 to win.

A son of A.P. Indy, Shanghied ran six furlongs in 1:11.60 and earned $24,000, raising lifetime earnings to $31,410.

Skipper finished second, with Stonewall Harris third.

On Saturday, Ericka's Lass took her third consecutive stakes, with a victory in the Chantilly.

Ericka's Lass improved her record of 5-4-1-0 and earned $78,360.

Ridden by Mike Immarino and trained by Emile Corbel, Ericka's Lass finished six furlongs in 1:12.60 and paid $4. Miz Mitzie ran second, followed by Warmnfuzzyfeelin.

Remiewaterbluz won her second stakes in Sunday's La Verendrye. Trained by Clayton Gray and ridden by Paul Leacock, Remiewaterbluz returned $4.50 to win, and the $24,000 winner's share increased her lifetime earnings to $142,308.

Remiewaterbluz ran the six furlongs in 1:13.60.

Dark Rapids finished second, with Siberian Falstaff third.

* Travis Hightower continues to dominate the local jockey standings. Heading into this weekend Hightower has won 30 races, 15 more than Vince Geurra in second place.

Three jockeys are tied for third with 10 wins each.

Emile Corbel leads the trainer standings with 13 victories, followed by Valorie Lund (11) and Gary Danelson (9).
