Fast fillies rematched in Angie C.

AUBURN, Wash. - Nine 2-year-old fillies vie for divisional leadership in Sunday's six-furlong Angie C. Stakes, the first stakes of the season for the juvenile set.

The two maiden special weight winners in the field - Ask Kathy and Secret Flame - are expected to contend for favoritism. Two other maiden special weight winners - Musical Wine and The Case Queen - were not entered because neither was eligible for the Northwest Race Series, of which the Angie C. is a part.

Ask Kathy may have a slight edge in the betting on the strength of her win over Secret Flame on June 4, when she prevailed by 2 3/4 lengths in a rapid 57.40 for five furlongs. Ask Kathy, a daughter of Louis Quatorze, has not been postward since, but she drilled five furlongs in a dazzling 57.60 last Sunday and would seem to be ready for another big effort.

Secret Flame, a General Meeting filly, returned for her second start on June 26, when she led throughout to defeat Celtic Crown by a length in 58.60 for five furlongs. She, too, posted a solid five-furlong workout last Sunday, getting the distance in 1:00.40.

Ask Kathy is trained by Steve Bullock, while Secret Flame goes for trainer Aubrey Villyard. Villyard will also saddle Basket Wave, a winner at the maiden $20,000 level on June 16.

Nite Moon looms as a possible upsetter after winning her debut by 10 lengths here on July 8, when she defeated $20,000 maidens with five furlongs in 58.40.
