Fasig-Tipton Texas yearling sale catalog now online

A smaller book of 129 horses has been cataloged for this year’s Fasig-Tipton Texas yearling sale, to be held on Monday, August 26.

The one-day sale will begin shortly after 5 p.m. Central at the company’s sales complex at Lone Star Park, following a cocktail reception and charity auction co-sponsored by Fasig-Tipton and the Texas Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association to benefit the Texas Educational Fund and The Paddock Foundation.

The catalog for this year’s edition of the Texas yearling sale is 24 percent smaller than in 2012, when 170 horses were included in the book.

“We have a quality catalogue for the Southwest – nicely balanced between nationally proven sires like Birdstone, City Zip, Dunkirk, Eddington, Flatter, Political Force, Ready’s Image, Stephen Got Even, and Wildcat Heir and Southwest regional sires such as Chitoz, Early Flyer, Save Big Money, Special Rate, Too Much Bling and Valid Expectations,” said Tim Boyce, Texas sales director for Fasig-Tipton.

“This year I think we’ll see a great deal of interest in the exciting freshmen stallions as well, such as Affirmatif, Grasshopper, Line of David, Silver City, Sing Baby Sing, and Summer Bird. Given the more upbeat mood in our industry and the economy generally, we’re looking forward to a solid sale.”

A total of 113 yearlings were sold last year for revenues of $1,150,000, down 52 percent following the 2011 sale, which sold 225 horses and featured yearlings being dispersed by Heiligbrodt Racing Stable in addition to the regular catalog. The average sale price of $10,177 was down five percent, while the median rose 20 percent to $6,000.

The sale was led by Successful Review, a Successful Appeal colt who sold to Brad Grady for $57,000.
