Fasig-Tipton sale results mixed

As expected, stakes-winning filly Somethinaboutlaura was the top lot at Fasig-Tipton's winter mixed auction, selling to the Bluegrass Thoroughbred Services agency for a sale-record $375,000 on Tuesday at Newtown Paddocks in Lexington, Ky.

A 4-year-old filly, Somethin-aboutlaura was the highlight at an auction that otherwise had mixed returns. The two-day sale offered more lots this year - 630 to last year's 473 - and ended Tuesday with a 12 percent gain in gross receipts, from $6,966,700 to $7,772,700. The average price for the 444 horses sold declined 5 percent on the catalog's added bulk, settling at $17,506, and the median fell 19 percent to $5,000.

Paramount Sales consigned Somethinaboutlaura to the auction. The filly came into the auction with a recent win in the Foster City Handicap, a 6-0-1 race record from 10 starts, and earnings of $174,830. She is a daughter of Dance Floor and Crystals of Ice, by It's Freezing.
