Fasig-Tipton pushes back 2-year-old sale to late March

Fasig-Tipton Sales Co. has moved the date of its annual 2-year-old in-training sale so that it will be the third major juvenile auction of the year rather than the first, according to an announcement by the company.

The sale in 2012 will be held March 26, a Monday, at Palm Meadows Training Center near Boynton Beach, Fla., with an under-tack show on March 23. This year, the sale was held on the first Thursday in March, making it the earliest 2-year-old sale in the U.S.

With the new date, the sale will follow the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s sale in Florida on March 13-14 and the Barretts sale in California on March 20, but precede the Keeneland 2-year-old in-training sale on April 9.

“There has been a steady shift over the last few years in most 2-year-old racing programs, with the tracks pushing back juvenile races to later dates in their calendars,” said Boyd Browning, the company’s president, in a statement. “Finding a window for our sale in late March is a logical move to reflect these circumstances.”
