Fasig-Tipton Midlantic: Grand Slam colt stands out at second breeze show


A Grand Slam colt turned in the overall fastest time for one furlong on the second and final day of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds in training sale under-tack show on Thursday, covering the distance in :10 seconds flat at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Md.

The chestnut colt, Hip 230 in the sale, is the first foal out of the winning High Yield mare D’high Speed, who is a half-sister to 2003 Puerto Rican Horse of the Year D’ Wildcat Speed, dam of Preakness Stakes entrant Titletown Five. Consigned by Kings Equine, agent, the colt’s page also includes Puerto Rican champion Velvet Panther.

The fastest juvenile at a quarter mile on Thursday was Hip 421, an Indian Charlie filly, who completed her breeze in :21.60 seconds.

The bay filly is the second foal out of the winning Johannesburg mare Private Dreams, and is from the highly productive family of champion and Broodmare of the Year Personal Ensign, champion Storm Flag Flying, Grade 1 winners My Flag, Miner’s Mark, Traditionally, and Personal Flag, Grade/Group 2 winners Interactif, Parading, God of Chance, and Strong Suit, as well as Grade 3 winners Seeking the Title, Animal Spirits, and Giacom. She is consigned by James Layden, agent.

The two-day sale will be held May 20-21 at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sales pavilion in Timonium, beginning each day at 10 a.m. Eastern.
