Fasig-Tipton, Keeneland to adjust dates for November sales

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Fasig-Tipton and Keeneland auction houses announced Friday that they will delay their usual November breeding stock auction dates in an effort to help buyers arriving from the Nov. 2-3 Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita.

The two auction houses also have amended their conditions of sale to make veterinary X-ray reports part of their repository and subject them to “the limited warranty that the reports are accurate, valid, and authentic,” according to the companies’ Friday announcement.

The schedule alteration will mean that Fasig-Tipton will host its November mixed sale on Monday, Nov. 5, starting at 4 p.m. That sale traditionally has taken place on Sunday evening.

Keeneland’s November breeding stock sale, which usually opened on the Monday after the Fasig-Tipton session, will start this year on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 10 a.m. and continue until Nov. 16.

“These scheduling adjustments will be in place during those years when the Breeders’ Cup is held in California,” the companies’ statement said.

The veterinary X-ray reports “are descriptions or summaries offered by veterinarians of what is reflected in the radiographs of each horse cataloged in the sale,” the release said. “The reports will be accessible in the repository after X-rays have been reviewed.”

If a report is found to be “materially misleading,” a horse’s buyer will have 24 hours to reject the purchase, starting from the end of the auction session in which the horse was sold.
