Fasig-Tipton July racing age sale: Spring Along strikes off maiden win

Young horses flashing raw talent early in their careers were a hot commodity Monday at the inaugural Fasig-Tipton Kentucky selected horses of racing age sale. The 2-year-old filly Spring Along was among those to capitalize, selling for $370,000 to Off The Hook LLC, as agent, off of her debut win.

“We knew she was going to be expensive,” said Joe Appelbaum of Off The Hook, which will put together a partnership to continue racing the filly. “We’re happy we landed her. We know how hard it is to buy these horses.”

Spring Along, from the second crop of sire Spring At Last, was consigned by Paramount Sales, as agent. The filly handily scored in her debut June 30 at Parx Racing, pulling clear in the stretch to win by 6 3/4 lengths and finishing 4 1/2 furlongs in :52.16 seconds. She earned a 79 Beyer Speed Figure in her debut.

“She had a very impressive first race,” Appelbaum said. “She did it effortlessly. We really like how she moves. … She handled it [at the sale grounds]. That’s not so easy, to go from the track to the auction.”

Out of the stakes-winning Honor Grades mare Connate, Spring Along is a half sister to stakes-placed winner Hamiltonian.
