Fasig-Tipton average up


The average price at the two-day Fasig-Tipton winter mixed sale that closed Monday night increased 54 percent over last year's sale, helped principally by a strong second session on Monday.

During the session, Fasig-Tipton sold 183 horses for gross receipts of $4,640,700, for an average price of $25,359. The average on the first day of the sale, for 194 horses sold, was $11,990.

In total, gross receipts for the sale was $6,966,700, a 48 percent increase over the gross for the two-day sale last year. Fasig-Tipton sold 377 horses this year, from a total of 473 offered, compared with 394 horses sold last year. The average price for the entire sale was $18,479, compared with $11,962 last year.

Median for the sale was up 24 percent, to $6,200 this year from $5,000 last year.

The sale-topper, a 4-year-old graded-stakes-winning filly named Sweet Win, was sold Monday afternoon. She sold for $370,000 to North Hills Management from the Denali Stud, agent, consignment.
