Fasig-Tipton adds new horses of racing age sale in July

Fasig-Tipton Kentucky will add a new auction to its calendar this year: a racing-age sale on July 15 in Lexington.

The auction will immediately follow the Fasig-Tipton July yearling sale, which also takes place on July 15 at its Newtown Paddocks facility. The racing-age sale will have its own catalog.

“To now, selling a racehorse has been dominated by private negotiation,” Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning, Jr., said in a release announcing the new sale. “Sellers have been at a distinct disadvantage, because this process limits competitive bidding. We are looking to change that.”
Browning added that “a broader-buying base, especially encouraging trainers to come to Lexington, will have a positive impact on both the yearling and the racehorse sale.”

Racing-age auction catalogs will be available only on the sale grounds, and the company will take entries to the auction up to about a week before the sale takes place. Fasig-Tipton will publish information on the entries—including pedigrees, race records, race videos, and workout information—online at www.fasigtipton.com. The auction house also will send e-mail updates to potential buyers.

“Current digital radiographs will be provided for all entries,” according to the Fasig-Tipton release.
