Familiar rivals meet again

Raging Rapids and Hailie's Girl, who finished one-two in last fall's Pistol Packer Handicap, are rematched in the $60,000 Caught in the Rain Handicap at Philadelphia Park.

The setting for Saturday's stakes, a mile and 70-yard race for Pennsylvania-bred fillies and mares, is nearly identical to last October's

1 1/16-mile Pistol Packer, a race Raging Rapids easily won by 4 3/4 lengths.

Like their last meeting, there's a four-pound spread in the weights. Raging Rapids carries high weight of 124 pounds this time.

A 6-year-old mare, Raging Rapids has won seven races since she was claimed for $10,000 early last season by trainer Ramon Preciado on behalf of Victory Thoroughbreds. Her three wins this year have all been against open company in starter allowances.

Hailie's Girl, trained by Ramon's brother Lupe, has been sprinting in her last seven starts. She's 0 for 2 around two turns, though she has been second both times.

Two with the ability to upset are Defiant Maid, stretching out for the first time in her career after winning 3 of her last 4 starts, and J.D. Safari, who comes off a sharp second against open company going a mile.
