Familiar fillies tangle

ANDERSON, Ind. - The eagerly awaited rematch between Lil Broad Tee and Spotless Mind will take place Friday night when the one-two finishers of the City of Anderson Stakes meet again in the $40,000 Miss Indiana Stakes for 2-year-old Indiana-bred fillies at Hoosier Park.

Both fillies rallied from well back and through traffic in the 12-horse field for the City of Anderson on Sept. 30, hooking up in the final furlong with Lil Broad Tee nosing out her rival for the win.

Friday's six-furlong Miss Indiana drew a field of seven, including the Barb McBride-trained three-horse entry of Spencerina, Northern Lady, and Adriatic Lady.

Spotless Mind, trained by Dale Romans, will break from post 6 and rates a slight edge. She won her maiden against $50,000 claiming company at Churchill Downs and tuned up with a sharp half-mile in 47.80 seconds at Turfway Park on Monday. Shaun Bridgmohan will come in to ride for owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey.

Lil Broad Tee, trained by Lynn Whiting, comes into the race off a good five-furlong work at Churchill in 1:02 on Nov. 1. Leading rider Rodney Prescott has the mount from post 7. Lil Broad Tee won her maiden here on Sept. 3 and returned to win her stakes debut in the City of Anderson, and now puts her undefeated streak on the line.

McBride's three fillies are all exiting wins. Northern Lady appears the most likely to threaten the top pair. She was sixth in the City of Anderson and returned Oct. 16 to capture the fillies division of the restricted Hoosier Silver Cup by 5 1/4 lengths. Billy Patin has the return mount from post 2.
