Fame and Glory scores for O'Brien at Saint-Cloud

Trainer Aidan O'Brien returned to the Group 1 winner's circle on Tuesday as Fame and Glory won the 1 1/4-mile, $313,000 Criterium de Saint-Cloud for 2-year-olds.

It gave O'Brien his 23rd Group 1 victory in the final such race of the season in Europe.

Ridden by Johnny Murtagh, Fame and Glory was one of four O'Brien trainees who were sent off as a 3-1 entry. His stablemate Drumbeat finished a half-length behind in second. The Andre Fabre-trained Feels All Right was third, three-quarters of a length farther back, while a third O'Brien horse, Age of Aquarius, came home fourth, beaten 1 1/2 lengths by the winner. The time for the 10 furlongs on heavy ground was 2:19.90.

With 23 Group 1 or Grade 1 victories in 2008, O'Brien is unlikely to threaten Bobby Frankel's record of 25, as he is not planning to send any horses to run in the big year-end Group 1 races in Japan and Hong Kong.
