Fall meet adds 1stakes, subtracts 4 dates

EmailHollywood Park will offer a shorter fall meeting this year compared to 2006, but a more lucrative stakes schedule that has been increased by one event, to 23 races.

The richest race at the Inglewood, Calif., track will be the $750,000-guaranteed CashCall Futurity, formerly known as the Hollywood Futurity. One of six Grade 1 stakes at the meeting, the CashCall Futurity is being sponsored by the CashCall lending company for the first time. Last year, the Hollywood Futurity had a purse of $250,000-added and was worth $441,500.

The Futurity is the most prestigious of eight stakes for 2-year-olds, six of which are on the Cushion Track synthetic surface.

This year's 32-day meeting runs from Nov. 7 through Dec. 22 and offers stakes worth $4.36 million. Last year, during a 36-day meeting, the track ran 22 stakes worth $3.78 million.

There are no changes to the six-race Autumn Turf Festival on Nov. 23-25, which features three Grade 1 races and is worth $1.75 million. The most lucrative day of the meeting is Nov. 25, which is headlined by two $500,000 races - the Matriarch and Hollywood Derby.

This year, three overnight stakes – the War Chant and Audrey-Skirball Kenis Stakes and Hermosa Beach Handicap – get purses increases of $5,000, to $65,000. The track has added the $65,000 Playa Del Rey Stakes, a sprint for females, on Dec. 9 to the schedule.

Two races for statebreds – the On Trust and Cat's Cradle handicaps - have been moved to the final weekend. They were run in late November last year.
