Fairplex: Clean trip enables Unhitchthetrailor to dominate Barretts Juvenile

POMONA, Calif. – All it took was a clean trip for the 2-year-old colt Unhitchthetrailor to strut his stuff.

After bad trips led to off-the-board finishes his last two starts, Unhitchthetrailor put it all together Sunday at Fairplex Park, where he scored a dominating victory under jockey Christian Santiago-Reyes in the $87,800 Barretts Juvenile.

Unhitchthetrailor ($3.60) tucked third early, attacked outside into the backstretch, opened up passing the five-sixteenths, and was not threatened thereafter. He won the 6 ½-furlong race by three lengths in 1:21.28. Taylor Marini finished second at 61-1 odds, Joyzey Billy finished third.

Gary Sherlock trains Unhitchthetrailor for owners Terry Lovingier, Phil Daniels, and Patsy London. Sired by Kafwain, Unhitchthetrailor has won 2 of 6.

The Barretts Juvenile was one of three wins Sunday for Santiago-Reyes, second in the Fairplex standings behind Martin Pedroza, who won four. Pedroza leads the standings, 21-13.

Racing resumes Wednesday at Fairplex Park with a twilight card that kicks off the final week of the 13-day Los Angeles County Fair meet. First post for the 10-race card Wednesday is 4 p.m. Pacific.
