Fairplex: Cee Dreams upsets Feverish

POMONA, Calif. - The $49,000 E.B. Johnston Stakes was bet like it was a one-horse race at Fairplex Park on the opening weekend of the Los Angeles County Fair meet. Feverish started at 3-5 in the 1 1/16-mile race (1:44.34) for fillies and mares, but it was a surprising Cee Dreams ($10.40) who rolled by 6 1/2 lengths while Feverish struggled in second. Cee's Elegance finished a length back in third.

The race foiled Feverish's attempt at a third straight win in the E.B. Johnston, while confirming Cee Dreams's affinity for the five-eighth-mile bullring. Cee Dreams, a 5-year-old mare by Cee's Tizzy, won for the fourth time in five starts at Fairplex in her first stakes win. Omar Berrio rode the winner for trainer Pete Eurton. Iggy Puglisi originally was named to ride, but he was still sore from a spill Saturday and rode only one race Sunday. Cee Dreams has won 10 of 37, and is expected to return Sept. 21 at Fairplex in the $100,000 Las Madrinas Handicap.
