Fairmount track report

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. - Heading into the final weekend of the Fairmount Park meet, Ralph Martinez, 24, has the training title sewed up for the third year in a row with 121 wins. Leroy Hellman is safely in second with 64 wins from only 228 starts. Hellman has had an odd meet. He got off to a horrible 1-for-31 start and has been winning at a 32 percent clip since then.

There would seem to be little drama left in the jockeys' race as well, where Tommy Pompell, who left for Hoosier Park in late August, still holds a 129-116 lead over Mike James. The title will be Pompell's second at this track. He is tied for sixth in the Hoosier Park standings.

* Friday night's feature is the $25,000 Shuvee Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at six furlongs. Trainer Ron Brandenburg has a strong entry of Unsprung and She's Fantastic going against only five others. Mike Nance will send out Moon Shine Time, who won her maiden against winners at first asking.
