Fair Weather Stan scores

Fair Weather Stan avenged his recent setback at the hands of Fearless Eagle in the Lord Juban Stakes, parlaying a perfect trip into a two-length decision over that rival in the $50,000 Donthelumbertrader Stakes at Calder.

Fair Weather Stan, a son of Tiger Ridge, finished fourth, just 1 1/2 lengths behind Fearless Eagle, after encountering early trouble in the Lord Juban. In the Donthelumbertrader, Fair Weather Stan was positioned much closer to the early leaders, readily assumed command from the tiring Nothing Impossible and Dippi Trippi into the far turn, settled into the stretch with a comfortable advantage, and was not seriously threatened through the final furlong.

Fearless Eagle, who won the Lord Juban in his grass debut at odds of 48-1, raced forwardly placed Saturday but offered only a mild closing response while finishing a half-length in front of his uncoupled stablemate Villainage. The latter, making her second start of the season and second lifetime try on grass, steadied around the opening bend and then offered a belated rally to finish third.

Jose Rivera II rode Fair Weather Stan ($14.40) to victory for trainer J. David Braddy and owner Joel Sainer.
