Fair Grounds: Star Guitar out for record

Lou Hodges Jr.
Star Guitar, with Corey Lanerie riding, wins the Louisiana Champions Day Classic.

Star Guitar came out of his third straight win Saturday in the Louisiana Champions Day Classic in good condition, trainer Al Stall said, and his connections now have the all-time earnings record for a Louisiana-bred as a target.

“He went to the track today," Stall said Wednesday morning. "He looks good. Everything’s fine. He’s on schedule for the fourth of February at Delta.”

That’s the date and location of the next Louisiana-bred stakes race for older route horses, and Star Guitar’s upcoming spot is a rich one, worth $200,000. Star Guitar has earned $1,515,862, and a win in the Delta race would put him right on the doorstep of Happy Ticket’s Louisiana-bred earnings record of $1,688,838.
