Fair Grounds to open infield on Louisiana Derby Day

Email

Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans on Tuesday announced plans to open the track’s infield to fans on Louisiana Derby Day, March 30.

A release from the track said that the Fair Grounds infield hasn’t been accessible to the public during a race day since the 1930s. Patrons will cross from the apron to the infield – going over the main track and the turf course – on temporary bridges borrowed from Pimlico Race Course.

Billed as Infield Festival, the event will include a large gathering of food trucks and a performance by the band Cowboy Mouth. General admission tickets, which go on sale in January, can be purchased for $25, with VIP packages available at $60 and higher.

The Louisiana Derby Day card will start later than normal, with first post scheduled at 2 p.m. rather than the normal 12:40.
