Fair Grounds: Happy Ticket scratches

There were four stakes races on closing day at the Fair Grounds meet at Louisiana Downs, but the biggest story was not who won, but who didn't run, as Grade 1 winner Happy Ticket was scratched from the $104,650 Lagniappe Ladies Sprint after the track came up sloppy.

"I just didn't want to take a chance running her in that," said trainer Andy Leggio. "When you got a nice filly like this, you don't take any chances with her."

Destiny Calls ($4.20), scratched out of Saturday's Lagniappe Ladies, took command of the Ladies Sprint under James Graham at the top of the stretch and went on to a three-length victory, running 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:05.16.

* Nitro Chip ($4.20) ground out a tough half-length win in the $105,650 Lagniappe Classic, beating a stubborn Prince T.

* Rain moved the $80,875 Black Gold Stakes from turf to dirt, two scratches reduced the field to six, and Kingsfield ($4) romped to victory in his first start around two turns.

* Grand Facile scored a 6-1 upset in the $104,850 Crescent City Oaks, which also was moved from turf to dirt.
