Fair Grounds: Graydar, Bourbon Courage to get rematch in New Orleans Handicap

Donn Handicap winner Graydar breezed an easy five furlongs Sunday in preparation for the March 30 New Orleans Handicap.

The top two finishers in the Grade 1 Donn Handicap last month at Gulfstream Park both had weekend breezes as they continue preparations for their expected rematch in the Grade 2, $400,000 New Orleans Handicap on the Louisiana Derby undercard March 30.

Graydar, the Donn winner for Todd Pletcher, went an easy five furlongs in 1:03.80 on Sunday at the Palm Meadows training center, while Bourbon Courage went five furlongs Saturday in a minute flat at Fair Grounds.

Bourbon Courage “trains aggressively – he really just trains himself,” said Evan Downing, assistant to trainer Kellyn Gorder. “He knows what he wants to do and just does it.”

One of the other likely favorites for the New Orleans Handicap, Mark Valeski, had a bullet breeze last Wednesday at Fair Grounds, going a half-mile in 47.20 seconds. It was the first work for the 4-year-old colt since he won the Feb. 23 Mineshaft.
