Daisy Devine, winner of the Pago Hop and the Mardi Gras stakes during the ongoing meet at Fair Grounds, will be forced to miss the $100,000 Bayou Handicap next Saturday after contracting a skin disease.
Daisy Devine, trainer Andrew McKeever said, already has been shipped from Fair Grounds to Keeneland. McKeever remains hopeful of being able to make the Jenny Wiley Stakes there with Daisy Devine, a six-time winner of nearly $600,000.
Tiz Moe has edge if feature moves to dirt
Sunday’s featured race 8, restricted to 3-year-olds, is open to first-level allowance horses or $50,000 claimers, and drew a field of 10 plus one horse, Tiz Moe, entered main-track only. Tiz Moe looks like the horse to beat if, as is entirely possible, the race is rained onto dirt, while Class President and Al Musaddad appear to be primary contenders if the Sunday feature stays on grass.
Best Bets
AQUINNAH returns to a route and she couldn't have found a much better spot as a horse who wants to be involved early, as the expected pace scenario figures to favor those runners with a little early zip and she appears to be quickest of them all out of the gate; should control the tempo, and that should lead to her running to her best figures. CHARMINGMEGAN has tactical speed and likes to win, a combination that makes her easy to like; should get first run at the top pick.
