Star Guitar, Corey Lanerie up, wins the Costa Rising Stakes by 2 1/2 lengths.

Star Guitar, who has dominated Louisiana-bred stakes races in recent years, rolled to his 17th victory in 23 starts on Friday with an easy, 2 1/2-length score over Heavenville in the $75,000 Costa Rising Stakes.

Star Guitar ($2.10) was an overwhelming favorite against three outmatched rivals, including a betting entry. With three betting interests, there was only win betting in the straight pools. Hallway finished third, and Candiano was last.

Jockey Corey Lanerie kept Star Guitar lapped on Heavenville, the early pacesetter, during the early going. Star Guitar worked his way to the front at the top of the stretch while traveling under a light hold and kicked away late as if he was out for a morning breeze.

Star Guitar was timed in 1:43.30 for 1 1/16 miles on the fast main track. He has won eight times in 10 starts at Fair Grounds.
