The Factor sizzles in San Vicente

The Factor, making his first start since his sensational maiden win on opening day of Santa Anita’s meet nearly two months ago, used his speed to run away from the competition in Sunday’s Grade 2, $150,000 San Vicente Stakes for 3-year-olds at Santa Anita.

Ridden for the first time by Martin Garcia, The Factor ($3.80) opened up a three-length advantage and held off a large charge by Sway Away to prevail by a length while covering seven furlongs in 1:29.70. Premier Pegasus was third in a field reduced to six by three scratches.

The Factor, trained by Bob Baffert, won his first start on dirt on Dec. 26, earning a 108 Beyer Speed Figure for his 8 1/4-length score going six furlongs.
