Fabre has top two in Moulin

Andre Fabre holds the key to Sunday's Prix du Moulin de Longchamp with his ace milers Vahorimix and Banks Hill.

This Group 1 contest has been won by subsequent Breeders' Cup Mile winners Miesque, Ridgewood Pearl, and Spinning World. The first two of those were fillies, and it would be no surprise if the 3-year-old Banks Hill were to uphold the honor of the female side again.

Winner of the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot against her own age and sex, Banks Hill was promoted to second in a controversial Prix Jacques le Marois on Aug. 19. That race was awarded to Vahorimix, the lucky Linamix colt who was also placed first courtesy of the stewards in the French 2000 Guineas.

It is difficult to see any of the five foreign invaders, among them Slickly, from Godolphin Racing, and the Aidan O'Brien-trained Hawkeye, beating Fabre's runners. Neither can the locally trained Kouroun or Lethals Lady be taken as serious threats.

o France-Galop stewards have denied the appeal of German owner Rolf Wilhelms of Proudwings's disqualification from the Jacques le Marois. Wilhelms had complained that leading owners in France are accorded undue influence. The horses Proudwings interfered with, Banks Hill and Noverre, are owned by Khalid Abdullah and Godolphin, respectively, while the placed-first Vahorimix is owned by France-Galop president Jean-Luc Lagardere.
