Eydon Hall stock to be sold

Breeding stock from the late Gerald Leigh's famous stud will go under the hammer at this year's Tattersalls December sale, the auction house announced Tuesday.

Leigh's Eydon Hall Farm bred such horses as the 1994 Breeders' Cup Mile winner, Barathea, English classic winner Bosra Sham, and Group 1 winners Act One, Gossamer, and Markofdistinction. Leigh died in June 2002, at age 71. The executors of his estate and his children, Sarah and Robin, decided to offer "the vast majority" of his bloodstock at the December sale, according to a Tattersalls release.

The highlight of the dispersal, if included, would be the 2002 Irish 1000 Guineas winner and English champion, Gossamer, a daughter of Sadler's Wells and Leigh's great broodmare Brocade, making her a full sister to Barathea. Now 4, Gossamer is in foal to Rainbow Quest.
