Exposure holds on by neck in Albuquerque Distaff Handicap

The 4-year-old Exposure, ridden by Ry Eikleberry, narowly defeats Warrens Puppy Love in the Albuquerque Distaff Handicap.

Exposure, locked in a tight battle with Warrens Puppy Love throughout the final quarter-mile, prevailed by a neck in Saturday night’s $50,000 Albuquerque Distaff Handicap for fillies and mares at the Downs at Albuquerque.

Ridden by Ry Eikleberry, the 4-year-old Exposure ($6.20), the slight favorite in a nine-horse field, was in front by a head after the first six furlongs in 1:09.98. She increased her advantage to a half-length at the eighth pole before Warrens Puppy Love mounted a final surge and just missed. It was another 2 ¼ lengths back to Lady Contender in third.

In completing the mile in 1:35.57, Exposure matched the track record set by Curve Ball in 2003. A daughter of Colonel John trained by Justin Evans for Go-To-Toga Racing and Bill and Susan Tomasic, Exposure is now 5 for 15 with earnings of $123,057.
