Experience vs. class in Ford

Blastin Holland meets the Grade 1-tested Summertime Fly over 550 yards in the $25,000 Paul Ford Handicap at Los Alamitos on Saturday night.

Blastin Holland comes off a win at 550 yards in the Palo Verdes Handicap on Nov. 6, his first win in 10 months. In his previous two starts, however, he showed improving form with two close second-place efforts.

Summertime Fly has never raced beyond 400 yards, but he is the class of the field with $171,222 in earnings. In 2003, Summertime Fly was a Grade 1 futurity horse, with a second-place finish in the Ed Burke Futurity and a third-place effort in the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity. Although he is winless in six starts this year, he did qualify for the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby, finishing a troubled ninth-place in the finals.
