Expect Will wins closing day feature


GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Expect Will remained perfect in four career starts Sunday when he drove to a determined half-length win over Leaving On My Mind in the $125,000 colts and geldings division of the at Lone Star Park.

With the win, Expect Will gave his trainer, Steve Asmussen, a sweep of the four 2-year-old stakes run this meet at Lone Star. Expect Will also won the colts and geldings division of the Texas Thoroughbred Association Sales Futurity last month, while the Asmussen-trained Berdelia won the fillies divisions of both the TTA Sales Futurity and the Texas Stallion Stakes.

Expect Will ($6.40) settled just off the pace in the Stallion Stakes, while Valid Virtue jumped out to the lead at the start and led the field through an opening quarter in 21.56 seconds. Expect Will advanced four wide on the turn, and proved best in the drive. Expect Wings finished third, a half-length behind runner-up Leaving On My Mind.

Expect Will covered the five and a half furlongs in 1:04.28.

Jeremy Beasley rode the winner for Heiligbrodt Racing Stable. Expect Will earned $75,000 for the win, which improved his career earnings to $171,942. He gave Asmussen his ninth stakes win at the meet, which is a record for a trainer at Lone Star.

Lone Star closed out its spring meet on Sunday.
