Evangeline: Truly Lucky heads solid group of turf sprinters in Tellike

A solid cast of 11 fillies and mares, led by Truly Lucky, will assemble Saturday night at Evangeline Downs for the $50,000 Tellike Stakes, a five-furlong turf sprint.

Trained by Karl Broberg, the 5-year-old Truly Lucky comes into the Tellike off a sharp front-running score against high-level optional claming company over the Lone Star turf. She has won 5 of 10 starts over the last two seasons.

Tina Lena Too will be making her first start on grass. A daughter of Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo out of the Summer Squall mare Summer Moment, Tina Lena Too has won 2 of 4 career starts, all for trainer Glenn Delahoussaye. She comes off a third-place performance in her stakes debut in the Hallowed Dreams locally over the main track earlier this month.

Tina Lena Too was favored that evening but was uncharacteristically well off the early pace before rallying. She drew the rail Saturday and new rider John Jacinto may choose to exploit her advantageous post.

Five Star Fun, 3 for 6, comes off a runner-up finish against entry-level allowance types on the grass at Fair Grounds late last month.
