Evangeline track report

LAFAYETTE, La. - Trials for the Bayouland Sales Futurity, the second leg of the Evangeline Triple Crown for Juveniles, were held last Friday with the top six finishers from each of the two qualifying races set to go in the finals Aug. 3. The Bayouland is restricted to yearlings purchased in one of Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders' Sales in the past year.

The trials produced few surprises as second choice Legs O'Neal ($6.80) wore down favored Prime Time Suzie to win the first trial in 59.60 seconds for five furlongs. Lamarche's Oro ($10.80) led virtually the entire way in winning the second trial by 3 3/4 lengths over another favorite, Remember Doc. The final time was 1:00.20.

* The LTBSC will hold a summer mixed sale Aug. 4. The sale is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette with 129 horses of all ages slated for auction.

* Paw Paw's Pride remained unstoppable in this season's Marathon series, winning for the fourth straight time on Friday. Carrying high weight of 122 pounds, Paw Paw's Pride defeated Lucky Man for the third time in a row, covering the 1 7/16 miles in 2:28.40. The series continues Aug. 2 at a 1 5/8 miles.
