Evangeline track report

It's all about teamwork Friday night at Evangeline Downs as no fewer that three stable couplings have been entered in the $50,000 Bayouland Sales Stakes. The six-furlong sprint is restricted to 2-year-olds who passed through any of the four local sales held by the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders' Association during the last two years.

Although the three entries will garner their share of attention on the tote board, the heavy favorite is expected to be a single entrant from the powerful Cole Norman stable.

Voodoo Gold, perfect in three races at Evangeline over the summer, returns to his favorite oval after finishing off the board in his last two starts, both at Louisiana Downs. He was the favorite in the six-furlong Stardust Stakes on Sept. 17 and most recently an 8-1 outsider in his turf debut in the Gentilly Stakes two weeks ago. A return to the main track and a group of 10 rivals who have collectively recorded only two wins likely means Voodoo Gold returns to his winning ways. C.J. Woodley has the mount.

The most potent one-two punch among the entries appears to be the Valene Farms tandem of Ellie Won and Lexi's Luck. In her most recent start, Ellie Won scored a front-running win over maidens. With her speed, the inside post on Friday should be should be to her advantage. Lexi's Luck will be making her second career start after picking up a small check in a maiden special weight race at Louisiana Downs last week.
