Evangeline: Streak of Smoke tops?

LAFAYETTE, La. - Streak of Smoke, second in the "Shine" Young Futurity and the winner of the Evangeline Downs Sales Futurity earlier in the year, will attempt to solidify his position as the top 2-year-old of the meeting by winning the $50,000 Lafayette Stakes. The six-furlong closing day feature drew a field of 11.

Owned by Tower Equities LLC and Perry Judice, Streak of Smoke debuted in maiden company on the Memorial Day weekend and finished fifth as the favorite. Trainer Carrol Castille added blinkers for his next start and Streak of Smoke won his qualifying trail for the "Shine." He has not looked back since. Regular rider James Weatherly will once again be aboard.

Cabildo Bag, the winner of the Rebel Stakes for juvenile fillies at Louisiana Downs in her most recent start, will take on the boys for the first time. Owned by C S C Stables and trained by Glenn Delahoussaye, the undefeated Cabildo Bag will have C. J. Woodley in the saddle.
