Evangeline: Look At the Time back against Louisiana-breds for Rajun Cajun

Email

Look At the Time, who finished fifth in the Grade 2 American Turf at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Oaks Day last month, returns to Louisiana-bred company Saturday night as he heads up the field in the $50,000 Rajun Cajun Stakes at Evangeline Downs.

The Wes Hawley-trained Look At the Time will square off against nine fellow 3-year-olds at seven furlongs.

Crossing the wire first in all four of his starts over the winter at Fair Grounds, Look At the Time proved remarkably versatile. After being disqualified for interference in upper stretch in his six-furlong debut, the officially joined the ranks of winners after stretching out to a mile and 70 yards. He then moved to the turf in winning the Gentilly Stakes before moving back to the main track to take the Crescent City Derby. Don Simington will journey in from his Louisiana Downs base to ride Look At the Time.

Hurricane Bluff appears the most qualified to pull off the upset in the Rajun Cajun following his win in the Inaugural Stakes against open company in mid-April. Trained by Frank Trosclair, Hurricane Bluff has won 3 of 4 career starts and has been training forwardly between outings. Gerard Melancon will be in the saddle.

Others in the field include Top Cat Boogie, third in the Bachelor Stakes while facing open company at Oaklawn Park in early April and the consistent Benwill, who is coming off an allowance win at Louisiana Downs.
