Evangeline: Jose Do It may be one to catch in Hallowed Dreams

Email

Some of the quickest fillies on the grounds will line up Saturday night for the $50,000 Hallowed Dreams Stakes at Evangeline Downs.

Appropriately enough, the feature is named for a remarkable filly who won her first 16 career starts and 23 of her first 24, most in front-running fashion while campaigning in southern Louisiana from 1999 to 2001.

The quickest of the quick label in the Hallowed Dreams could very well belong to Jose Do It.  In her most recent race in January at Sam Houston, Jose Do It scored a front-running allowance victory. She also cleared the field soon after the start in the Truth or Consequences Stakes at Zia Park in her final start as a 2-year-old. That race has since gone on to produce several winners, including Cruzette, who won twice at the recently concluded Oaklawn Park meeting. Eddie Martin, Jr. has the mount.

The abundance of early speed in the Hallowed Dreams could set up Fleet Dawn’s late kick. Trained by E.D. Nelson, Jr., Fleet Dawn comes into Saturday’s feature off an allowance score at Delta Downs after finishing second in the $100,000 Happy Ticket Stakes over the Louisiana Downs turf last fall. Kevin Smith will once again be in the saddle.

◗ Long-time announcer Dave Johnson will call the second race while in town to broadcast his weekly radio program on Sirius XM.
